What others say about Harpeth...

It is surely a blessing to have good neighbors. For Congregation Micah, we are blessed by the presence of Harpeth Presbyterian Church.  This community minded, open, welcoming congregation shares more with us than just a beautiful river; they have shared services with us as we have shared worship space with them. Their pastor, David Jones, is a bright, warm and open hearted man well respected by all in the clergy community. To paraphrase an old Hebrew song, Hiney Mah Tov, how good it is for friends and neighbors to dwell together in peace. Rabbi Ken Kanter former Rabbi of neighboring Congregation Micah

Harpeth Church is ALIVE!  Alive with a sense of what it means to be a faith-filled church family and alive with God's call to serve the broader community.  Service and sacrifice is a part of their faith expression.  Harpeth Presbyterian Church's partnership strengthens us spiritually as we seek to lift up and provide opportunity to Nashville's poorest community. Marcia Edwards, CEO Martha O’Bryan Center.

Without exception, every Harpeth volunteer I’ve had the pleasure of working with has given wholly and unconditionally from their heart, always asking 'What else can we do to help?'. Harpeth’s adults and kids alike continue to greatly impact the lives of the Nations Ministry Centers' (refugee and immigrant) students, selflessly, with no thought of reward nor recognition.

Matt McParland Nation’s Ministry Center Team Leader.

Harpeth is such a fun congregation because they are real, and they are excited to learn and to grow in their faith. Theirs is definitely a community of faith where God's presence and mission are known and experienced both within and outside the walls of the building. Jennifer Fouse, Vanderbilt Presbyterian Campus Minister

Harpeth Presbyterian is not a church building or congregation; Harpeth is a home. From the moment you walk in, you are welcomed into the community of faith and given unconditional love. It is a joy to minister in an environment of such love.  Harpeth helped me grow into the calling of God. I cannot imagine a greater gift. Vona High, Youth Minister, Franklin First United Methodist, former HPC intern

The Faith We Profess

"A Creed"

We are not alone, we live in God's world.

   We believe in God:

Who has created and is creating,

Who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh,

             to reconcile and make new,

Who works in us and others by the Spirit.

   We trust in God.

We are called to be the Church.

            To celebrate God's presence,

            To love and serve others,

To seek justice and resist evil,

To proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen,

            Our Judge and our Hope.

In life, in death, in life beyond death,

            God is with us.

  We are not alone.

   Thanks be to God.

A member's reflections...

                                                           This Ole Church

Not knowing the stars’ vein

‘cross the heavens past the moon

                                                   nor the course I came,

       why, from where or whom

   I am puzzled and confused,

       discouraged and, fraught

   with painful despair, I muse

                                                       what life’s void has wrought.

   Looking down from the pier,

       dark gray waters flowing by,

   I wonder why I’m here

       and why I even try,

Startled, I hear a church bell ring,

eleven times in all, I’m sure,

and I believe I hear a voice sing

from behind me faint, but pure.

                                                   Drawn by the muffled sound

to the old chapel whence it came

my way is led across the ground

to a church without a name.

                                                   The old door standing ajar

invites me to come on in

and look ‘mongst the people … for

                                                        someone to call a friend.

Suddenly I hear the choir sing out

‘bout the river and the robe and the crown

and see the faithful stand and shout

for me … to come on down

To the alter to pray and ask for grace,

‘cause the sins of life take a toll,

and find here in this good ole place,

the joy to heal my soul.

Now this ole church by the river

                                            which steeple points Heaven’s way

is the place I’ll be forever

or, at least … ‘til judgment day.
